Samsung UN46D8000 3D LED HDTV Review
Samsung UN46D8000 LED LCD boasts what may be the most strikingly beautiful design on a TV this year. Not only does it have a very thin profile, but the bezel is as small and unobtrusive as I have seen, and the screen has an amazing ability to soak up ambient light and keep it's piano black look when many other screens would be a washed out gray. While reflections are unavoidable with any glossy screen, the remaining screen area retains much more contrast than usual under harsh ambient light. The UN46D8000 has finally convinced this long time matte screen fan to cross over to the other side.
Samsung UN46D8000 Review
The UN46D8000 delivers Full HD 1080p resolution, for a superb level of detail and clarity in your picture. To connect your sources, four HDMI inputs are provided, for delivering a Full HD picture and audio over a single cable. Samsung Smart TVs allow you to easily search for movies, TV shows, browse the web, explore Samsung apps, chat with friends and find many other types of new interactive TV content.
Access all your Smart TV features or DLNA network content without the need for a wired connection or add-on device. The UN46D8000 has Wi-Fi connectivity right out of the box. The Samsung LED 8000 series also includes a Full Web Browser to navigate the internet, a Search All feature so you can find videos via apps or other connected devices and a recommendation engine which suggests movies you might like from your Video-On-Demand services. Samsung Smart TVs allow your digital experiences to converge on a brilliant HD screen.
The UN46D8000 has a fantastic picture menu. Movie mode has just about every control a calibrator could wish for. However, getting the 10 point gamma/white balance control dialed in perfectly requires not only a good meter and measurement software, but also a lot of patience and experimentation.
prediction please: when will the blue ray player drop to sub $100?
i am wondering should hold out or get a regular 1080p upconverting hdmi player?
thanks.
i am considering philips 5992, $62 on amazon...
Sub $100? Not until Christmas 2012.
And then in 2013, we'll hear about the next new format which will pretty much be the end of Blu-ray. Buh-bye!
Upscaling players are cheap, and quite honestly, unless you have a 40" or larger HDTV that does 1080p, this will be quite adequate for your needs. I have one of the players from Oppo Digital (http://oppodigital.com) Their players handle just about any format you can imagine, are region free (yay), and consistently score high with even the pickiest Home Theater Enthusiasts.
Now, if you're interested in video games, you may want to consider a PS3 which plays games, upscales DVDs and plays blu-ray discs, all at 1080p. At $400, it's one of the cheapest blu-ray players out there, and still considered one of the best for the money.
