A Karoke Machine Will Liven Up Any Party
If you want to have a party that is the talk of the town for weeks on end among family, friends, and coworkers, a karaoke machine is the way to go; it doesn’t matter if you buy or rent the unit. The machines have come a long way from a tape player and tiny TV monitor built into a boom box. Today, karaoke players are high-end and high-tech; they come loaded with sound quality adjustments, outputs for more multiple televisions, and more. There are many ways to get Karaoke in your home including the following:
1. Rentals
If you only want Karaoke for a night, renting a Karaoke outfit from a party rental company can be a great option. With a party rental, you get a package that sometimes includes lights, a professional PA, good microphones, not to mention the widest selection of music. The more songs you get, the better party you will have because there is music to fit every guests’ tastes.
2. Buy a Unit
Karaoke machines are available still and have the ability to play special CD's that have the words synced up. The cost of a Karaoke machine and CD's is not too expensive but building a song collection can be an investment. The machines themselves range in price depending on options such as the number of video outputs, the type of video outputs and other factors. Newer karaoke players can handle music files burned onto a CD from a computer or via a built-in USB port that hooks up to a portable storage device, like a portable hard drive or flash drive. Most standard players are sold with a pair of low-end microphones although they are compatible with better microphones; in fact, it may be worth the investment to upgrade if you are serious about karaoke or want to host multiple parties. Moreover, better microphones last longer.
3. Buy a Gaming System
Today’s most popular consoles include the Wii, X-Box 360, and the PlayStation 3; they all come with karaoke games. Because these games are typically bundled with a microphone, get you a good value for the money if you already have the console. There are however a few downsides, like the limited selection of songs. Also, the microphones are usually low-line and not very durable. If you wish to upgrade microphones, this can be hard because the microphone must be designed for the gaming console in question. Although a modern gaming console with a karaoke game is ideal for the occasional karaoke party, it isn’t best for regular or frequent parties.
PC Fan hack lets you scra... scra... scratch analog audio, ah-yeah (video) (Engadget)
Digital DJ controllers let would-be grandmasters get up to all sorts of fancy
new tricks, but if you're one of those old dogs who can't be taught, then this
PC-fan-come-DJ-turntable might tickle your fancy. Connected to an old-school
personal cassette via an Arduino, with a little voltage level smoothing in the
mix, moving the fan "scratches" the audio, by controlling the speed of the
tape player. The initial plan was to have the fan spinning with the music,
like a real turntable, but as you'll know if you've ever caught your finger in
one of these things, it's probably best it didn't work out. Despite its home-
made charms, one final flourish is VU style LEDs for some mixer-style visual
feedback. Alas, there's no built in cross-fader, so don't start work on that
DMC routine just yet.
