ONKYO TX SR608 – Small Bugdet But Powerful Receiver
Looking for A/V Receiver? Smart way to find the right product for you is to compare it’s price with it’s performance. Why spends more if you can find something with quality but with less price? ONKYO TX SR608 may be called an “entry-level” A/V receiver, but when you witness the full potential of the Onkyo TX-SR608, you’ll know the level you’re entering is far beyond the ordinary.
For a start, you get six of the latest HDMI 1.4 inputs for simple hook-up of all your high-def sources. HDMI 1.4 also brings compatibility with the new 3-D video format, as well as an Audio Return Channel from your display back to the receiver. Complementing HDMI on the input front, you have an analog RGB video input for connecting your PC, and a Universal Port for Onkyo peripherals.
All video sources, regardless of resolution, can be upscaled to big and beautiful 1080p via HDMI and Faroudja DCDi Cinema. Audio processing incorporates quality Burr-Brown DACs, lossless Dolby and DTS codecs, and the expanded surround formats of Audyssey DSX and Dolby Pro Logic IIz. Three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry and jitter-cleaning technology will work to ensure extremely precise and faithful amplification. In recognition of the ONKYO TX SR608’s outstanding A/V prowess, it has been awarded THX Select2 Plus Certification.
When it comes to video processing, TX SR608 supported with the Faroudja DCDi Cinema (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) video processor offers several advantages. This processor can accept any video signal, regardless of the source resolution, and upscale it to 1080p to match the native resolution of your high-definition display. What’s more, DCDi Cinema effectively removes video artifacts such as jagged edges during the video signal deinterlacing process. You will enjoy smooth progressive scan video images, even for fast-moving sports and action scenes.
High-quality Burr-Brown DACs (PCM1690) work to optimize analog audio performance on the TX-SR608. These DACs perform advanced 24-bit signal processing and support sampling rates of up to 192 kHz, all while displaying high resistance to clock jitter and offering a 113 dB dynamic range.
The TX-SR608 can decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MasterAudio--two lossless formats that enable delivery of a bit-for-bit soundtrack that's identical to the studio master track. These codecs, previously only available for mid-range and high-end receivers, take advantage of the high data capacity of the Blu-ray format.
Audyssey 2EQ Acoustic Room Correction tailors multi-channel audio for your home theater speaker set-up by measuring three room positions and applying a resolution filter to the satellite speakers to correct /adjust for room acoustics. Audyssey Dynamic Volume automatically compensates for annoying volume fluctuations in audio content--for example, during jarring commercial breaks--all while optimizing the dynamic range of your sound. Finally, Audyssey Dynamic EQ maintains a consistent bass response, tonal balance, and surround-sound effect at different volume levels, so you can enjoy the natural dynamics of your content regardless of the volume.
With Powered Zone 2, you will enjoy surround-sound entertainment in the main room, while playing back a different stereo source in a second zone equipped with a pair of speakers. Alternatively, you can use the Zone 2 line-out to send an unamplified audio signal to an amplifier (and speakers) in the second room.
Changing your A/V receiver’s settings is now more seamless than ever, thanks to the TX-SR608’s new overlaid graphical On-Screen Display (OSD) feature. Simply press the Home button on the included remote controller, and semi-transparent graphical set-up menus appear overlaid on the video image you’re watching. This means you can adjust the settings immediately without having to switch back and forth from a blank screen background.
The Onkyo TX-SR608 is an amazing receiver for the cost. One of the best aspects of this receiver is the way it handles the volume control. First of all you can set the volume level that the receiver on turns on so you are not overwhelmed with a loud volume right away. Also you can set a maximum level so you don't accidentally turn the volume level too high. Audyssey Dynamic Volume is best use when you don't want huge fluxuations in volume so that dialogue, music and surround effects don't drown each other out. This means you don't have to keep changing the volume up and down during a movie as it maintains a more consistant level of volume. In order to use Audyssey Dynamic Volume you MUST run Audyssey 2EQ Acoustic Room Correction first. Place included microphone on a cheap tripod for this; DO NOT HOLD IN YOUR HAND as I have read some have;this can have an adverse effect on sound output. Set the Dynamic Volume to the Compression Mode you want(Light, Medium, or Hesvy as Off is Default) set Re-EQ function to ON as well. The instruction manual is so specific / detailed and easy to understand. Default setings are underlined in the instruction manual.
I need some help with defining terms used when buying a new DVD player?
I was planning to get a Sony Blue Ray disk player until I found out that all my regular disks and box sets won't play on a blue ray is that true? Next what do all those terms on the best buy site mean like 1080 input, HDMI, progressive scan? I just want the thing to work with good picture quality and play all my disks. I will be hooking it to a 50 inch HDTV that I already own. The player I have now is acting up and saying no disk sometimes when I try to play a disk so I think I need a new one. I am considering Sony or Samsung as I heard they are good players. Any advise or suggestions and help with these terms used is greatly appreciated.
Sony or any Blue Ray disk player will play any regular DVD and CD. Only format it might have problem is VCD format. You don't have to worry about that because that format is used mostly in Asia. All the stories in western stores sell only DVD or Blue ray. So for that matter, you don't have to worry about it.
As for 1080 input, there are two HD video formats. That is 1080i (stand for interlace) and 1080p (stand for progressive scan) as you mention. Don't buy the one that support only 1080i because 1080 is inferior to 1080p. But you can buy anything that support 1080p (progress scan) because 1080p is the last tier and it's support all the video formats such as 1080,1080i, 720p , 720i , 420i ,420p , analog and so on , just to make you more confuse but I am sure you get my point. Buying 1080p will cover all the technical difficulty and comparability.
HTMI is new digital cable to connect TV and digital player. It combine both audio and video in one cable and it's the only and best option to connected 50 inch HDTV and your blue ray player of choice. I am sure you remember those three cables that stick together with red, white, and yellow cable that used to connected old TV and DVD or videos player. HTMI is new cable and , therefore, all the devices that use it have new plug for it. It is high quality cable that can transport a lot more audio and video quality than those 3 colors cable. It is important to get that one too but I am sure your 50 inch HDTV will already have it and any blue ray player you buy would have it too.
Last, I don't know about samsung but blue ray is invented by sony and I got Sony playstation3. In my option , Sony playstation3 is the best blue ray player because it can connected to Internet wireless or with Ethernet cable(you will need that to play some blue ray Disc) , play PS3 game, and stream (watch ) movie files from your computer to HDTV without anything else. Last but not least is that you can surf internet in PS3 and watch youtube and any other video site.
