Why do people claim religions they don't follow?
I'm sure I could rant endlessly about Christians and failure to love they neighbor, be compassionate, be charitable, turn the other cheek, casting stones, etc.
But what about people who claim to be Wiccan? I have a high respect for Wicca. I also know that I couldn't be Wiccan because I couldn't follow the rules. Why then would someone claim to be Wiccan and not follow the rules they chose when they became Wiccan?
I'm ranting because I saw a request to Wiccans for a love spell. Do love spells even come in gray magic, which I understand is against Wicca? I can't imagine any qualify as white magic.
You may have respect for Wicca, but like most, you haven't taken the time to learn about it and understand it, or else you would know that not all Wiccans are witches, and those that are seriously frown upon love spells. I'm doubting that the person from whom you got this statement is actually even aware of what Wicca is.
As a side note regarding what you said about "rules": the problem with laws like those laid down in religion, is that people can't be perfect. Christians "sin" just like Wiccans mess up and perhaps cause harm despite the Wiccan Rede edict of "An it harm none, do what you will". But ya know what? We keep trying anyways. Because the point is not to be perfect, it's to do the best we can to live life in a decent and responsible manner. That's all any mature adult, regardless of creed, can hope to strive for, and in the end it matters little that as humans we are inherently flawed and subject to breaking our own "rules".
